# Definitions and Properties of Special Quadrilaterals

Parallelogram- 2 pairs of parallel sides

• Opposite angles are congruent
• Opposite sides are congruent
• Consecutive angles are supplementary
• Diagonals bisect each other

Rectangle- 4 right angles

• Diagonals are congruent
• Also a Parallelogram (has all of the properties of a parallelogram, including the definition)

Rhombus- 4 congruent sides

• Diagonals bisect opposite angles
• Diagonals are perpendicular
• Also a Parallelogram (has all of the properties of a parallelogram, including the definition)

Square- 4 right angles and 4 congruent sides (combo of Rectangle and Rhombus)

• Has all of the properties listed above (Parallelogram, Rectangle and Rhombus)

Trapezoid- One pair of parallel sides

• Two pairs of consecutive angles are supplementary

Isosceles Trapezoid- Trapezoid where the pair of sides that are not parallel, are congruent.

• Diagonals are congruent
• Two pairs of congruent consecutive angles

Kite- Two pairs of congruent consecutive sides

• Diagonals are perpendicular
• One diagonal bisects the other
• One diagonal bisects one pair of opposite angles
• One pair of opposite angles are congruent.
