1/27/17- Sub-Day: Radicals and Geometric Mean

Warm-Up (Give students 5 minutes, then show answers. Note: √ will mean “square root”. On this website, I can’t get the top part of the square root sign. So square root of 16 will look like this: √16)

Solve each:

1.) √49

2.) √25•√4

3.) √(8•2)

4.) Dilate A(-5,2) by a scale factor of 1/4 with center P(7, -6).

Answers:

  1. 7        2. 5•2 = 10         3. √16 = 4        4. (-5, 2)-> (-12, 8) -> (-3, 2) -> A'(4, -4)

Now show the following video:

Pass out the Simplifying Radicals WS. (Simplifying Radicals) Give students 5 minutes to begin work (they don’t have to finish it now), then show the next video:

Students have the rest of the period to complete their yellow geometric mean WS that was passed out Wed/Thurs.
